Hey guys! I figured I would introduce myself. My name is Pete and I live in Andreas, Pa. I own a '01 Corvette that I am currently doing some upgrades to. I am hoping to have close to 500 rwhp when done. Here are some pics. Hope to meet some you guys in the near future.

Seriously, thanks for the welcome guys. I love my new (to me) vette. White vettes are hard to find, due to low production numbers. They are the least popular color believe it or not. I am hoping to have some new big numbers this spring. Then it's off to 1/4 mile.

Right now the car has an ECS cam in it. It also has a ported throttle body, vararam cold air, underdrive pulley, ported oil pump, American racing long tube headers, and a Borla exhaust. It also has a Rockland Z06 tranny, tranny brace, 4.10 gears, and a textralia clutch. This all made 400 rwhp on ECS's Dynopack dyno.

What I plan to do now is put on a FAST 90 intake, and a LS2 TB, some Lucas 42 lb injectors (I just bought these) and then some heads. I am trying to decide if I want to spend the big dough for a set of AFR, or Trick Flow heads. I am thinking I would be happy with a set of 243 heads that have had some port work done to them by PRC or someone similar. Maybe even go with a set of Trick Flow 220cc "as cast" heads. I am hoping that this will get me in the 450-500 rwhp range. I am also hoping I can get into the low 11 or high 10 range, without having to kill my car. Thanks for the help guys.

I have the TFS 215's and with a fairly mild cam I put down 434 on 93 octane and 469 on 110. They also have an incredible torque curve! Ran an 11.0 at 123 with a 3800+ pound car. 400 RWH is pretty damn good for those mods, what are the specs on the cam? It will be harder to get 243's up to those power levels and still have a fairly timid driving car. If you are looking to save some cash maybe look into doing the small bore L92/L76 top end conversion. No cathedral port heads will be able to compete with those bad boys.

Cocks? I know its an acronym but for what?

I think I have a set of used heads I can get. It is a set of PRC LS6 1.0 heads with PRC double spring kit and Yella Terra 1.7 roller rockers. It also has LS7 lifters with it. All of this has less than 3k miles. He is asking $1300. Is that a good price? The lifters were used on his setup. Can I use them with mine now? I have heard that using used lifters is a no no, but then I have heard it is not a big deal (especially with that little mileage). What do you guys Think? Thanks.

That's a good deal, I'd pass on the rockers, you don't really need them and they can be a hassle. I wouldn't sweat the lifters, just soak them in oil overnight and you should be fine. Check the heights too, I think LS7 lifters are a different overall height then LS1 lifters, may need a different pushrod

I don't think that's a great deal, to be honest. Stock rockers work very well, and be-rand new LS6 heads can be had to 500-600. PRC springs are cheap (in more ways than one).

What are the complete specs on the cam you have? You probably don't need something with such a high spring rate, either.. a good quality beehive (PAC makes good springs for this) could be the better setup for the cam.

I'm going to agree with Rich on this one. Unless you intend to rev sky high, the stock rockers will be fine. If anything, just do the roller trunion upgrade to them and you'll be good to go. I'm going to be ordering the trunion kit this week and will post pics of the install.

The PRC stage 1 heads are nothing more than touched up LS6 heads. No real meaningful gains to be had from them. They certainly won't get you to your 500rwhp goal. I think the money would be wiser spent elsewhere.

L92 swap.....

Well, I all ready bought the heads. I can tell you this. It is more than stock heads with a little work to them They have had some nice porting done to them. Flow #'s show some significant gains over stock too. ECS cam is near 600's in lift and the engine redline was raised somewhere close to 7K. I would rather not have stock rockers trying to pull that off. I will be using a thinner gasket to bump up compression to about 11 to 1. I also am having my FAST 90 and LS2 TB ported by Jeremy Formato. I am thinking I will be in the 475 range when it is all said and done (after a good tune). Who knows, though.

My cam is over .600 lift and I rev cleanly to 7k also, but it's combination of the total lift and the lobe of the cam... that's why I had asked for the full specs on the cam, to see what springs.. So far, I still say the PAC 1218's would work perfectly, the 1518's are nitrided for longer life and can handle a higher lift cam without getting stupid on the valve spring pressures.

yeah with the full specs of the cam we could give you a better guesstimate on HP.... 475 is going to be real tough with 243 heads, no matter the port, unless you are running a really big cam. You would probably need a cam in the 24x/24x range to have chance at those numbers and you can suffer some real driveability issues with a cam that size in a 5.7, so be careful. To put it in perspective my engine is a 5.7, 11.5:1 compression with a 228/238 cam, trickflow 215's, fast 90, etc etc and I only manged 469RWH on 110 octane and 434 on pump gas. Always beware of dyno numbers as a good operator can get you any number you want.

And let's not forget.. though I'm guilty of doing the same thing, aiming for a number isn't such a hot idea.. A dyno is a tuning tool, useful for seeing your power curve and tracking before/after changes..

I'm sure I could hit the number I originally wanted if I visited a more liberal dyno.. but at the end of the day, I cared more about when the power came on, not the number it made.

What type of dyno was that on? Those are some really stingy numbers. A lot of the guys on the corvette forum are saying they are getting your 110 numbers on pump gas if not a lot more. I know my car was dyno'd on a dynapack dyno and made 400rwhp with just the cam and bolt ons. The dynopack is supposed to be more stingy than the dynojet dyno. Since these cars make 300+ at the rear wheels stock, I would hope all that you did would amount to more than that. You are right, though. A dyno can make any number you want it to. The number that matters is when you go down the quarter. What kind of times are you pulling with that beast? I don't know, I might wind up pulling the rockers and selling the head and getting some AFR 205's. Looks like the vette will be paid off this year.

Mine was on a mustang dyno, and like I said, people who are hung up on numbers can be made to have their numbers. When I operated the dyno at the shop I could make an air filter swap gain 100hp by changing 2 parameters, it is very subjective. How many of the Vettes have gone 11.0 or trapped 123 at the track is a better question, and that is at close to a 4000 pound race weight so I am giving up close to a half second to a vette on weight alone. As far as I am concerned the dyno means nothing except for getting your tune right. I'd rather have the big fat torque curve my car is making then extra top end power that I will see only at the race track.

Sorry if I offended. That was not my intention. I had a feeling that you were on a Mustang dyno. They give the lowest numbers, but I heard they are more accurate numbers, too. Like you said drivability, and 1/4 mile times mean more than huge dyno numbers. The ultimate goal for me is to have a car that would do low 11's high 10's and be able to do the curves just as well. Yeah, that's all. I'm sure many guys could do it with less horsepower than me, but I like to not break my stuff so much.

I stand corrected with the stage 1 PRCs. I see they now do a lot more to them than they used to.

I'm pretty sure that the dyno at Stump's is a "Mustang dyno" and Fbodies get a special calibration to read more "accurately".

His only READS like a Mustang dyno..

This is why i long ago decided that my moto was " NA is the expensive way to go slow" put a turbo or super charger on the thing and you will make 500. my current ls1 is stock cept ARP rod bolts and head studs and it will easily clear 500 WHP on pump gas.
